{"id":1371,"date":"2014-06-24T05:01:56","date_gmt":"2014-06-24T05:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gardenfreshveggies.com\/?p=1371"},"modified":"2014-06-24T05:01:56","modified_gmt":"2014-06-24T05:01:56","slug":"strange-beauty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gopherknoll.com\/?p=1371","title":{"rendered":"Strange Beauty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every year we look for something unique to grow in the garden. \u00a0 This year, we picked a winner in the Chinese Red Noodle Bean.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gopherknoll.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/img_1437-e1403585750761.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1355 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/gardengoodness4u.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/06\/img_1437-e1403585750761.jpg?w=570\" alt=\"IMG_1437\" width=\"570\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gopherknoll.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/img_1437-e1403585750761.jpg 2600w, http:\/\/gopherknoll.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/img_1437-e1403585750761-297x300.jpg 297w, http:\/\/gopherknoll.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/img_1437-e1403585750761-768x777.jpg 768w, http:\/\/gopherknoll.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/img_1437-e1403585750761-1012x1024.jpg 1012w, http:\/\/gopherknoll.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/img_1437-e1403585750761-1200x1214.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also known as Asparagus bean, Snake bean (for pretty obvious reasons) or Yard Long bean, it is a well known ingredient in Asian and Indian dishes. \u00a0 It does make a fine ingredient in my use-whatever-is-in-the-garden country stir-fry.<\/p>\n<p>The beans\u00a0have\u00a0a nice, almost nutty, green-bean flavor, even though it is more closely related to black-eyed peas than green beans. \u00a0The bright red color is pretty eye-catching and unlike many of the red veggies,\u00a0the color remains\u00a0when sauteed or pickled.<\/p>\n<p>Chop it into small 2 &#8211; 3 inch long pieces and cook just as you would green beans,\u00a0add it to a stir fry, or leave it whole, drizzle a little olive oil on it and throw it on the grill. \u00a0Such a beautiful bean deserves to be appreciated!<\/p>\n<p>Watch for them at the Railway Cafe in Athens. \u00a0Chef Justin Boswell got a few last week and I can&#8217;t wait to see what he does with them!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every year we look for something unique to grow in the garden. \u00a0 This year, we picked a winner in the Chinese Red Noodle Bean.
