Gardening can be tough, and in an organic operation, we rely on the help of friends. \u00a0A lot. \u00a0We even cultivate those relationships with almost as much caring and tenacity as we do our two-legged friends.\u00a0Taking care of the bigger picture is what makes an organic garden so rewarding.<\/p>\n

\"From<\/a><\/p>\n

Right now, our bigger picture includes making some important family time available. \u00a0So we won’t be at the Saturday market this week. \u00a0We hope to return on First Monday weekend, and after that – to borrow a good baseball term – we’ll have to punt. \u00a0Life is sometimes a little unpredictable.<\/p>\n

However, not being at the market doesn’t mean you’ll be left without access to your veggies! \u00a0Dana is making an effort to provide space at Dana’s Health Foods, on Hwy 19 S in Athens<\/strong> – right down from the Save-A-Lot grocery. \u00a0We’ll keep her stocked as best we can. \u00a0 This week we’ve had kale, chard, okra (all 3 varieties), Rosa Bianca and Fengyuan eggplant, San Marzano tomatoes, Red Ripper Peas, cantaloupe and even a beautiful Crimson Sweet watermelon. \u00a0 I try to make it there with the morning’s fresh veggies by noon, but when the weather is good, I may be a little later than that.<\/p>\n

We had a great event last night with the Henderson County Master Gardeners at their Fall Conference. \u00a0 It was a good time. \u00a0If you were there, and missed out on the handouts, you’ll find my slide presentation here<\/a>. \u00a0The handout with the Planting Dates chart is available from Aggie Horticulture at this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I’ll have extra copies on August 31<\/strong> when I join Mike and Mandy at Athens Organic Supply on Hwy 31E in Athens<\/strong> for a morning workshop. \u00a0If you’d like to look at drip irrigation or row covers, talk about fall garden choices, or have other garden questions, I hope you’ll join us. \u00a0We’ll start about 9:00 AM<\/strong> and finish when we’re done.<\/p>\n
