I hear it’s a virtue. \u00a0 I’m working on it – but I sure wish it would hurry!<\/p>\n

Patience is what I need as I wait for fall garden to come in. \u00a0The cooler weather we’ve had the last week or so will help and one day the tomatoes and peppers will be back to enjoy again. \u00a0I finally figured out that I should be less frugal with the new drip irrigation – plants like lots of water when \u00a0it’s so hot. \u00a0The tomatoes, peppers and especially the watermelons are thanking me for it. \u00a0 \u00a0 But it seems I’m always hungry for what isn’t quite ready yet.<\/p>\n

People keep asking what we have planted for fall. \u00a0It’s a long list. \u00a0I’ve had as much fun planning the fall garden as I did the spring.<\/p>\n

For one: \u00a0It’s easier to grow greens in the cooler weather (some of the seeds are already in the ground!) \u00a0And I LOVE fresh greens! \u00a0Lettuces (several varieties), spinach, swiss chard, mustard, baby arugula and pak choi. \u00a0 Next week I’ll set out broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi and both red and dutch blue kale. \u00a0Green onions. \u00a0Re-runs of summer squash and green beans are already planted. \u00a0 Butternut, spaghetti, buttercup, delicata and banana squashes, too. \u00a0Pumpkins – for pies, for carving and for beauty. \u00a0Radishes. \u00a0Sunflowers. \u00a0 Carrots, beets and turnips.<\/p>\n

Edamame soybeans. \u00a0Fresh crop of burgundy okra – just right for pickling. \u00a0Pickle cucumbers, too. \u00a0We even set out a fall planting of irish potatoes to go with the sweet potatoes. \u00a0And did I mention the little plot of Orchard Baby sweet corn?<\/p>\n

We’ve \u00a0planted a lot of it already – and there’s more seed still\u00a0to put in the ground. \u00a0 But then, we have to be patient. \u00a0When fall is good and here, the garden will be overflowing again.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, we’ll be starting fresh herb seedlings – and we’ll have seeds and pots at market, ready to start some just for you this weekend. \u00a0 I’ll even have a few great heirloom vegetable seeds \u00a0to help you start your own fall vegetable garden. \u00a0 It’s easier to be patient when you’re busy!<\/p>\n
