Cold weather has brought a good share of challenges to the garden this year, but there IS a silver lining – or a green one, at any rate. Our crisp evenings may delay the warm weather veggies, but they also extend the season for beautiful greens! Pictures are worth a thousand words, they say:
There are some beautiful Medina Butterhead lettuces, and the Reine des Glaces Crisphead is almost too pretty to pick. Spring mix with leaf lettuces, baby dragon tongue mustard, baby chard, bloomsdale spinach, arugula and dwarf pak choy. We should also be able to find some new potatoes to go with spring onions, salad turnips, turnip greens, and radishes. And I almost forgot the kale, Red Russian and Dutch Blue Curly – still sweet and tender!
Baby squashlings are just setting this week and should be ready in another week or so. Beets, carrots, new onions and green beans are just around the corner. Here’s hoping a couple more nights in the 30’s won’t slow us down too much.
See you all bright and early Saturday morning!
