The dog days of summer…

We won’t be at the market this week.   The veggies need a little time to recuperate from the heat and home and family needs a little TLC.

The garden is in one of those between-times.  Summer heat takes a toll on tomatoes and green beans about now – but they’ll be back once the heat lets up.  Our local bunnies have taken more than their share of the edamame soybeans – we are making efforts to negotiate a truce, but so far the bunnies are not cooperating.   We’ll re-plant inside the new bunny-fence and hope for a late summer crop.

Not everything is hurting:  The peppers and okra, Red Ripper peas and melons – are all doing just fine.

Pumpkins, sweet potatoes, popcorn and winter squash are already growing for fall.   Fingerling potatoes and fall-crop potatoes are soon to be planted.  Lettuces, cabbages, broccoli  and fall tomatoes are starting in pots.    It may take a little time, but the garden will be in full bloom again, soon.

We thank you all for the support and encouragement you’ve shown us.   Athens is a GREAT community!  We’re so glad to be a part of it!

See you soon!
